About
We would like to begin with congratulating the whole asian community for being successful in obtaining an FM broadcast radio licence. “Mubarakh Ho aap sab ko!!!!!!”
Media is heavily regulated in the UK and as such very rarely does the opportunity arise to be considered for an FM frequency. 48 applications, including Awaaz Radio, were submitted to Ofcom in late 2008 for the South East Region. There is a rarity of frequencies in the south therefore competition was stiff and only a few were destined to be successful.
Our application was due to be considered in September 2009, so it was a long nailbiting wait to see whether we had been successful in our bid. We received a call in July 2009, 2 months ahead of the consideration date informing us that we had been awarded the licence to operate a radio station on the FM Frequency. Yippee!! The hard work paid off.
Awaaz Radio, the name of our station, is the unique opportunity we as a community in High Wycombe have been waiting for. As you are all aware Radio is a powerful medium arguably one of the most powerful and one that we are now able to utilise to develop our community. This medium will be used as a platform to provide entertainment, information dissemination, advice on education and health, discussions on current affairs and modern day issues that affect us all, and we know there are a lot of problems that need to be addressed.
This station is a non-profit organisation which means all revenue is spent on the operations of the radio station and in providing additional services to better the lives of the community. The financial information will be in the public domain and we will promote 100% transparency.
We aim to form a number of committees; members of which will be chosen from you the community to run the various aspects of Awaaz Radio, including but not limited to Radio Content Committee, Womens Committee, Youth Committee, Social Committee, Religious Committee, Sports Committee and Educational Committee. These committees will provide the impetus for on air radio programming and off air activities to meet the currents needs of these groups.
We need all the support we can get; we need committee members, presenters, producers, event organisers, advertisers and advertising agents. Please express your interest by phoning, visiting or emailing us or through our website and become a part of history in the making.
